Photographic transfers onto either a wood or ceramic substrate involves the transfer of an original photograph's ink without any backing. A specialty medium is applied in multiple layers onto the photograph; the paper backing is removed in water and the fragile skin is applied to a new substrate resulting in a softening and transmutation of the image.
